COACHELLA, Calif. — Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez hosted a rally for some of his fellow Democratic candidates from Coachella at the grand opening of his new election headquarters on September 18.

Pérez asked the nearly 200 attendees for their support as he seeks his third term in the State Assembly.

He introduced Dr. Raul Ruiz, who is running for Congress against Mary Bono Mack, with great excitement, as well as the following candidates: Eduardo Garcia, Coachella mayor running for reelection; Emmanuel Martinez, Coachella councilmember running for reelection; Maggie Zepeda, candidate for Coachella City Council; Betty Sanchez, candidate for Coachella city treasurer; and Beatriz Barajas, candidate for Coachella city clerk.

The candidates, who presented themselves as a team, were all from Coachella, with one notable exception: President Barack Obama.

Obama campaign signs hung alongside those of Pérez, Ruiz, and Garcia.  The podium featured a sign with an Obama slogan, “Fired Up.”

Community members chanted sí se puede as together they kicked campaign season into high gear in the Eastern Coachella Valley.

Coachella Unincorporated will cover the 2012 election, focusing on the candidates campaigning in the Eastern Coachella Valley.
