March 21, 2013 /

INDIO – Assemblymember V. Manuel Pérez invites community members to join him in celebrating Women’s History Month at two events this weekend.

This Friday, March 22, Pérez will hold a meet-and-greet social at the Coachella Valley History Museum, 82-616 Miles Avenue. The focus of this social and networking event is women in volunteerism, recognizing the contributions of women’s clubs, organizations, and leagues to the civic life and wellbeing of Coachella Valley communities.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss legislation and local issues with Pérez.  Light refreshments will be served. The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The following day, Saturday, March 23, Pérez will focus on women’s health by participating in the Second Annual Zumba 4 a Cure at the Coachella Boys and Girls Club, where he will also be one of the opening speakers.  Joined by the Coachella Chamber of Commerce and American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the event seeks to raise awareness about women’s health issues and prevention through exercise and access to early cancer detection. This event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at noon.

“I hope you will join me on Friday at the CV History Museum to focus on volunteerism and celebrate women’s important contributions to the civic life of our Valley,” said Pérez.  “Then on Saturday come out and get some exercise while supporting the important cause of women’s health and wellness.”

Another event will be scheduled for later this month, honoring women entrepreneurs for contributing to the economic vitality of the Coachella Valley.

On March 4, 2013, HR 6 was passed declaring March as Women’s History Month in observance of women’s roles in making history and shaping the cultural and societal makeup of California. For more information on this year’s celebration of Women’s History Month, please contact the Indio district office at (760)342-8047.
